Hospitals must be clear about using patient identifiers

It may be one of the original NPSGs, but #1A (use two patient identifiers when providing care) is still causing confusion in some hospitals. Further debate surfaced when the 2007 goals were originally released and The Joint Commission omitted an implementation expectation (IE) that said facilities must use two identifiers for special treatments and procedures-an IE that had been part of the goal since its creation.
