It's one thing to be aware of the data to provide surveyors by reading the Survey Activity Guide, but you'll be better off if you plan and focus on key data, says one expert.

Focus on core measures, the National Patient Safety Goals (NPSG), and how data-collection improved your hospital's performance if you want to do well on your next survey, says Patricia Pejakovich, RN, BSN, MPA, CPHQ, a consultant with The Greeley Company, a division of HCPro, Inc., in Marblehead, MA.

"When the surveyors arrive, you have to present them with the data they want very expediently," Pejakovich says. "You want to appear to have your act together."
