Hospital staffing numbers affect MRSA rates

According to a study by Australian researchers, overcrowded and understaffed hospitals are faced with increased rates of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), the Washington Post reports.

With the numbers of beds at many hospitals shrinking while patient numbers are growing, specific MRSA prevention components—such as handwashing—are being negatively impacted, the report states.
